16regular Oreo cookies, divided(half for coating the Chex, half for adding to snack mix)
6Tablespoonspowdered sugar, divided(half used to coat white chocolate Chex, half used to coat chocolate Chex)
Instructions
Line a baking sheet. Using either wax paper or parchment paper and set aside.
Prep your Oreo coating. Place half of the Oreo cookies into a food processor or blender and blend until the cookies have been crushed into a fine powder (a few small cookie pieces are ok). Divide the crushed Oreos between the 2 gallon-sized Ziploc bags. Then divide the powdered sugar between the two gallon-size bags and set aside.
Get your Chex set up. Divide the rice Chex cereal between two large mixing bowls and set aside.
Prep your chocolate. If using bar chocolate, rough chop each kind. Place chocolate into separate microwave-safe bowls.
Make your semi-sweet coated Chex. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate in 30-second increments in the microwave, stirring in between each cycle, until smooth. Pour the melted chocolate over one of the bowls of Chex cereal and stir until all of the cereal is well-coated. Place the chocolate coated cereal into one of the resealable plastic bags with the crushed Oreos and powdered sugar. Close the seal the bag tightly and shake to coat the cereal with the powdered sugar and Oreo cookie mixture. Pour the coated cereal onto a lined cookie sheet to dry.
Make your white chocolate coated Chex. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate in 30-second increments in the microwave, stirring in between each cycle, until smooth. Pour the melted white chocolate over the other bowl of Chex cereal and stir until all of the cereal is well-coated. Place the white chocolate coated cereal into the other resealable plastic bag with the crushed Oreos and powdered sugar. Close the seal the bag tightly and shake to coat the cereal with the powdered sugar and Oreo cookie mixture. Pour the coated cereal onto a lined cookie sheet to dry.
Mix and add more Oreos. Once the coated cereal has dried, and broken or chopped up Oreo cookie pieces to the baking sheet and mix to combine the two types of puppy chow.

Notes
StoragePuppy chow tastes best in the first 1-2 days after being made. However, if stored properly in an airtight container or zip top bag, puppy chow can be stored for up to 1 week at room temperature and up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.Recipe Variations and Substitutions
Use Mini Oreos. I love mixing these into my puppy chow because they're the perfect size! If you just want to buy just one kind of Oreo, you can crush some of these up and also mix them into your puppy chow too.
Swap the semi-sweet chocolate for milk chocolate! If desired, use a milk chocolate bar or milk chocolate chips in place of the semi-sweet chocolate for this recipe.
Expert TipsBe sure to fully coat your cereal with the chocolate. I highly recommend taking an extra minute or two to continue stirring the melted chocolate and cereal together to ensure all parts of your cereal are well coated. This allows the powder sugar and Oreo coating to cover all parts of the cereal, resulting in the very best puppy chow.If using white chocolate chips, add a tiny splash of neutral oil to assist in the melting process. A small amount of a neutral oil (like vegetable oil or canola oil) can help keep your chocolate from drying out, helping to prevent the chocolate from seizing up. This is especially helpful with white chocolate. A very small amount (like ⅛ teaspoon small) is all you need.
