1canPizza Crust(we use Pillsbury's 13.8oz tube of 'Classic Crust' Pizza Crust)
8all-beef hot dogs(Vienna Beef if you can find them)
1large egg(for egg wash)
optional: sprinkle of everything but the bagel seasoning
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F (as noted on the pizza crust tube). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Unroll the pizza dough onto a clean cutting board or surface. Cut the dough into 8, equal-sized strips the long way.(Start by cutting the pastry in half the long way to create 2 strips, then cut each half in half again to create 4 strips, then cut each strip in half again to create 8 strips)
Place one end of a hot dog at the end of one strip of pastry. Begin to roll it at an angle to twist the strip of pastry down the hot dog, overlapping the pastry a little bit (it's may be easiest to pick it up to do this). Continue until the entire hot dog is covered, using the entire strip of pastry. Set onto the lined baking sheet. Repeat and continue until all hot dogs are wrapped.
Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush over the pastry with a pastry brush.
Option to sprinkle with everything but the bagel seasoning (or other topping of choice) on top of the egg wash.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
Enjoy!
Notes
*Expert Tips for preventing soggy pigs in blankets: 1) Make sure your hot dogs are at room temperature before wrapping them (setting them out on the counter about 30-minutes before you plan to begin works well). 2) Once the hot dogs are at room temperature, dry them off with a paper towel or clean dish towel to remove any condensation before wrapping them.*Storage: place fully cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Option to freeze cooked and fully cooled leftovers for up to 1 month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through (about 10-12 minutes from the fridge, 15+ from frozen).*See 'Recipe Variations' section in the blog post for alternate pastry options, alternate topping ideas, and how to make these into cheesy pigs in a blanket.
