why you’ll love this toffee apple dip
Quick and easy to make. It will take you less than 10 minutes to mix up and layer your cream cheese apple dip with caramel and toffee bits.
This dip stores well. You can make this ahead of time or make it right before you want to enjoy it, it doesn’t matter because it tastes just as good a day or two later! There’s a reason this sweet dip is my go-to for fall gatherings!
Rich, creamy, and delicious. Creamy caramel is the main flavor, accented by cream cheese and toffee…basically, this dessert tastes like a caramel cheesecake dip (and who doesn’t want that?!).
caramel apple dip recipe ingredients
- Reduced Fat Cream Cheese – I recommend using reduced fat cream cheese as there really isn’t a need the extra fat. If you’d prefer full-fat cream cheese, feel free to use it instead.
- Brown Sugar – Used to sweeten the cream cheese layer and add depth of flavor.
- Caramel Dip or Caramel Sauce – Use your favorite store bought brand of caramel dip or sauce, or make a homemade one! Reduced Fat is a good option here too if you’d like to save some calories.
- Toffee Bits / Heath Bits – Toffee is a very sweet candy that is hard, brittle, and crunchy. It’s very similar to caramel or butterscotch. Using it in this dip adds nice texture and flavor.

cream cheese caramel apple dip variations
- Make your dip sweeter. I personally find this dip to be sweet enough with the caramel, toffee, and various things we like to dip in it. However, if preferred, you can add additional brown sugar to your cream cheese mixture for a sweeter dip. Increase the amount of the brown sugar from ¼ cup to ⅓ cup or even ½ cap if you like your dips really sweet.
- Add chopped nuts. Adding chopped walnuts or chopped pecans to this cream cheese apple dip would be a lovely addition. If I were doing this, I would add ¼ cup of chopped nuts in at the same time as the toffee bits.
- Replace the toffee bits with chopped up Heath bar or chocolate covered toffee bits. A little chocolate never hurts in my book… if you’re a chocolate lover too, you may love this option!
how to serve caramel apple cream cheese dip
You have a lot of options here! The main goal is to create a thinner cream cheese layer (about ½-1” thick) to spread your caramel over. Using a deep pie plate, a rimmed serving platter, or a 6 cup rectangular glass Pyrex container with a lid are all great options. Use what you have!
other foods to try with this dip
I like to set out a mix of dipping options when serving this caramel apple dip to friends and family. Besides slices of your favorite apples, these items are great options for dunking in this cream cheese caramel dip:
- Ginger snaps
- Graham cracker pieces
- Nilla Wafers
- Teddy Grahams
tips for making caramel apple dip in advance
Making this cream cheese caramel dip ahead of time is a great option! Although it doesn’t take a long time to make, it’s nice to have this dessert prepped and ready to go in the fridge before having friends over, for an upcoming potluck, or fall gathering!
If making your dip ahead of time, allow the dip to sit out at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes prior to serving. This allows the cream cheese to soften up a bit, making for easier and more enjoyable dipping!
storing cream cheese caramel apple dip
If you manage to have leftovers, store remaining dip covered with plastic wrap or in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Note: the toffee will begin to soften the longer it sits on the dip… not necessarily bad, but something to know.
caramel apple dip with cream cheese faqs
Yes, you can make cream cheese caramel apple dip in advance! However, it’s best served at room temperature for easy dipping. If you choose to make this a day ahead, allow the dip to sit out at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Place freshly cut apple slices into a medium sized bowl with club soda for 2-3 minutes to help prevent browning. Drain and place in the fridge until ready to enjoy.
Apple slices will stay good in the fridge for 3-5 days.
Granny Smith apples are often said to be one of the best apples to dip in caramel because they have just the right amount of tartness to balance out the sweetness of the caramel.
Other apple varieties great for dipping include Gala, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, SweeTango, Fuji, and Empire.
You can prevent freshly cut apples from turning brown by placing the apple slices into a medium sized bowl with club soda for 2-3 minutes to help prevent browning. Drain off the water and place the apple slices in the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy them.
