Peach Syrup for Drinks and More!

Sharing is caring!

Jump to Recipe

This homemade peach syrup brings the sweet, juicy goodness of summer peaches to your favorite drinks with just three simple ingredients! I’ve been making homemade simple syrups for over 15 years, and this peach version has become one of my most-used recipes during the summer months. Whether you’re crafting cocktails, mocktails, iced teas, or fun sodas, this naturally flavored syrup adds a delicious peachy sweetness that’s so much better than store-bought versions. With only 10 minutes of hands-on time, this easy syrup stays in your fridge for weeks, giving you endless opportunities to elevate your beverages with fresh peach flavor.

My husband and I have been experimenting with homemade drink recipes for over 15 years, and homemade simple syrups have become one of our favorite ways to add unique flavors to our drinks. We’ve learned that making your own flavored syrups is incredibly easy and gives you so much more control over the sweetness level and flavor. This particular recipe has been tested multiple times to get the peach-to-sugar ratio just right, creating a syrup that’s sweet but not cloying, with a vibrant peach flavor that really shines through.

Like our blueberry simple syrup, this peach syrup is also great on top of pancakes, waffles, French toast, and peach baked oatmeal (probably my hubby’s favorite use for it!), especially when paired with additional slices of fresh, juicy peaches!

What is Simple Syrup?

Simple syrup is a liquefied form of sugar used to sweeten drinks of all kinds like cocktails, mocktails, iced teas, and iced coffees. Using a liquid sweetener like simple syrup in iced drinks allows you to sweeten your beverage without adding a grainy texture. A standard simple syrup is made with equal parts water to sugar.

You’ll Love This Peach Syrup Recipe!

  • Sweet, peachy flavor. Using fresh peaches helps give this syrup a wonderful burst of natural peach flavor (nothing fake here!).
  • Minimal ingredients & time required. All you need is 3 basic ingredients, and about 10-minutes of hands on time, to make your own peach syrup. Easy-peasy!
  • Cost effective. If you love flavored syrups, you likely know how expensive the store-bought versions can be. Making your own syrup at home allows you to save some money and still enjoy a delicious flavor boost.

Peach Syrup Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make our peach simple syrup recipe.
  • Granulated Sugar. Granulated sugar is a standard ingredient for simple syrup recipes.
  • Water. Water is a key ingredient for making simple syrup.
  • Fresh Peaches. Fresh peaches are the star ingredient in this homemade simple syrup recipe… the juicier the better! And since we’re straining out the peaches, no need to peel of the skins.

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

Helpful Tools For Making This Peach Syrup Recipe

A fine mesh sieve is super helpful for straining out the berries from this recipe! I actually end up using mine a ton in my kitchen, so would say it’s a great addition to your kitchen tools if you do not have one. Alternatively, you could use a slotted spoon to remove the fruit form your berry syrup.

How to Make Peach Syrup

Process shot showing all of the peach syrup ingredients added to a small pan on the stove.

Add the white sugar, water, and sliced peaches to a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Process shot showing the peach syrup ingredients while cooking, with the peaches being broken down with a wooden spoon.

Stir the syrup and smash the peach slices occasionally to help release juices, continuing until the sugar dissolves (approximately 10 minutes).

Process shot showing peach syrup resting, allowing the peaches to steep in the hot syrup.

Remove from the heat and allow the peaches to steep in the hot syrup and cool down for 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Process shot showing peach syrup being poured into a fine mesh strainer on a large liquid measuring cup to remove the fruit.

Pour the cooled syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl or liquid measuring cup to remove the fruit.

Process shot showing a wooden spoon pressing the peaches in a fine mesh strainer to remove as much syrup as possible.

Press the peaches lightly to help transfer as much syrup as possible through the strainer.

Process shot showing the peach syrup being transferred to an airtight container with a funnel.

Transfer the syrup to a sealable, airtight container. Once fully cooled, store in the fridge.

Recipe Tip – Keep Those Peaches!

The peach pieces that you used to make your syrup are delicious served over ice cream, in oatmeal, or with yogurt! The peaches are sweet and delicious, so I’d recommend you find a way to repurpose them (waste not, want not, right?!). If you’re like my husband, you can also simply enjoy eating them right out of the strainer with a spoon.

Peach Simple Syrup Variations

  • Use frozen peaches. If peaches aren’t in season, frozen peach slices will work just fine. Just swap in the frozen peaches one-for-one with the amount of fresh peaches in the recipe card.
  • Add some citrus. If desired, toss in a few slices of orange or lemon peel to the syrup as it simmers for a pop of bright, citrusy flavor.
  • Add in some spices. If desired, toss in a cinnamon stick, a dash of nutmeg, a dash of cardamom, or a 1-2″ piece of fresh ginger root to bring warm and mellow notes to your syrup (kind of like a dessert!).

Making This as a Topping? Thicken it!

If you’re making this syrup exclusively to use on waffles, pancakes, French toast, etc… thickening it will give you a more maple syrup like consistency.

To do so, make a cornstarch “slurry” and mix it into your syrup mixture after you’ve simmered it for about 10 minutes. I generally do this by combining 1 teaspoon of cornstarch into 3-4 teaspoons of cold water in a glass and stirring it until there no lumps remain. Then whisk the slurry into your warm peach syrup on the stovetop. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

How to Use Peach Syrup

  • Cocktails & mocktails. Use your peach simple syrup to mix up fun, summery drinks. Use it to create your own drinks (peach pairs nicely with bourbon, vodka, and rum for a cocktail or with ginger beer for a mocktail), replace the plain simple syrup in our bourbon peach smash for an extra peachy drink, make a shaken peach daiquiri, add it to a bottom of a glass of champagne for peach Bellini, or try making a peach Moscow mule.
  • Teas & lemonades. Mix this syrup into a black tea, make a peach sweet tea, stir it into your favorite lemonade, or make my favorite: a peach Arnold Palmer!
  • Sodas. Mix it with club soda or plain sparkly water for a peach Italian soda. Add a splash of cream for a peaches and cream soda!
  • Stirred into yogurt. Stirring this syrup into plain yogurt (or plain Greek yogurt) is a great way to add peach flavor and sweeten your yogurt to your preferred level.
  • As a topping for pancakes, French toast, waffles, and oatmeal. This syrup is a great addition to your weekend breakfast spread as a fun alternative to maple syrup. If you love, love, love peach everything, try serving it over our peach baked oatmeal (my husband LOVES doing this)!
  • As an ice cream topping. This is extra delicious on vanilla ice cream, especially when you add more fresh peaches, or other delicious summer berries!

How to Store Homemade Peach Syrup

Store your homemade simple syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks. I like to use a sealed glass bottle when making my own simple syrups. However, you can use an upcycled glass jar or a mason jar for storage too!

Peach Syrup for Drinks FAQs

How long does peach simple syrup last in the fridge?

When stored properly in an airtight container in the fridge, your homemade peach syrup will last for up to two weeks.

Does peach simple syrup need to be refrigerated?

Yes, it’s recommended to refrigerate your peach syrup due to using real fruit. This helps reduce the risk of spoiling and extend it’s shelf life.

How to thicken peach syrup?

If you would like a thicker peach syrup (especially if you’d like to enjoy it over pancakes, waffles, and French toast), I recommend creating a cornstarch “slurry” and stirring it into your syrup mixture after you’ve simmered it for about 10 minutes. To do this, simply stir about 1 teaspoon of cornstarch into 3-4 teaspoons of cold water until there are no lumps. Then whisk it into your warm syrup mixture on the stovetop. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

How to tell when simple syrup is done?

You’ll know your syrup is done when all of the granulated sugar crystals have dissolved and the mixture looks clear (no longer cloudy).
