Why You’ll Love This White Wine Sangria Recipe

Level of difficulty: Sangria is an easy cocktail to make. A little chopping, measuring, stirring, and patience (you need to let the flavors meld together) is all you need.

Flavor: This fall white sangria recipe has apples, pears, and notes of citrus as the predominant flavors. Hints of cinnamon also accent this fall cocktail nicely.

Time: While it will take you 10 minutes or less to prep and mix up your fall white wine sangria, the overall time for this recipe is 1+ hours. This is because your apple pear sangria needs to chill for at least an hour to infuse the fruit flavors into your cocktail.

Ingredients Needed

Ingredients to make fall apple pear sangria. Includes white wine, vodka, orange liqueur, apple cider, apples, pears, a lemon, and cinnamon sticks.

White Wine: a good quality, but not too expensive, bottle of white wine that is on the drier side is what you need for the best white wine sangria! I personally use Pinot Grigio, but see the ‘Best White Wines for Sangria’ section below for other wine suggestions.

Vodka: select your favorite standard (i.e. not flavored) vodka for this sangria recipe with vodka.

Orange Liqueur: you can use any orange liqueur you’d like. We’ve personally been using Grand Marnier, but you could also use popular orange liqueurs like Cointreau or Triple Sec.

Apple Cider: apple cider is a classic fall item, and adds so much to this fall sangria recipe!

Fresh Fruit: this white wine and vodka sangria is loaded with fresh apples, pears, and lemon wedges! The apples and pears add a lovely fall sweetness to this wine cocktail.

Cinnamon Sticks: Adding cinnamon sticks to your apple and pear white sangria recipe really helps build the fall flavor profile of this batch cocktail. Don’t skip these!

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

Overview: How to Make Fall White Sangria with Vodka

  1. Add the diced apples, diced pears, and sliced lemons, apple cider, vodka, orange liqueur, white wine, and 2 cinnamon sticks to a large pitcher and stir to combine
  2. Place pitcher in the fridge for at least 1 hour prior to serving
  3. Serve in wine glasses or lowball glasses with ice. Optionally top with club soda or lemon lime soda, and garnish with a cinnamon stick, if desired.

Best White Wines for Sangria

Select a good quality wine at a lower price point; one that you would enjoy drinking on it’s own. For white sangria, selecting a white wine that is drier to balance out the sweetness of the fruit is the best choice. The best white sangria wine options are:

  • Pinot Grigio
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Unoaked Chardonnay
  • Dry Riesling

Making Sangria For a Crowd

Sangria is a great cocktail idea for a large group. You can easily double (or triple) this fall apple cider sangria recipe for a great party drink! You’ll just need to find a large enough container to serve this to a crowd. Or make multiple containers of this that you can bring throughout your event to refresh your guests’ glasses.

This apple pear sangria recipe would be a great large batch cocktail recipe for a fall bonfire, dinner party, movie night, girls night, or your next family gathering.

Expert Tips

If you are making this recipe a day in advance, I recommend removing the peel from your lemon. The lemon peel can can get bitter as it sit in the wine mixture for an extended period of time, and this prevents this from happening.

Recipe FAQs

What are the best white wines for sangria?

Select a good quality wine at a lower price point; one that you would enjoy drinking on it’s own. For white sangria, selecting a white wine that is drier to balance out the sweetness of the fruit is the best choice. Some of the best white sangria wine options are: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Unoaked Chardonnay, and Dry Riesling.

What are the best apples to use for this fall sangria recipe?

You will want to select a heartier apple that will hold its shape when submerged in the wine cocktail mixture. Using an apple that is good for baking, like Pink Lady, Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Granny Smith, Haralson, or Golden Delicious varieties will give you an apple that will taste delicious and hold it’s shape. All of these varieties of apples would be good choices in this apple and pear sangria recipe!

Could I use a different citrus fruit instead of lemon in this fall white sangria?

Since this sangria recipe already has orange liqueur, substituting the lemon with an orange would be a great swap-out if that is your preference!

How do I make this into a sparkling sangria?

If you’d prefer some bubbles in your fall sangria, I’ve recommended the addition of club soda or lemon-lime soda. Both are great additions to this wine cocktail!

The fall season is my favorite and this Sangria made it even better! I can’t wait for some crisp fall weather just thinking about it, although it would be amazing even if it isn’t fall. 🙂
